Preparing Medical Device Industry Technicians in a Regional Workforce Development System (2010). Led the design, development, and submission of a research proposal for the NSF’s Advanced Technological Education (ATE) program. The proposed 4-year project is a collaborative with community colleges, school districts, and USF colleges of education and engineering with potential worth of $1.2 million.

Hi-CSTEP: High School Computer Science Transfer Education Program (2010). Co-authored the preparation and submission of a demonstration proposal for the NSF’s Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC) program. The proposed 3-year project is a collaborative with four local districts and USF colleges of education and engineering with potential worth of $600,000.

Group Study Visit to the University of Bremen, Germany: A Comparative of Workforce Education Systems Strategy (2010). Wrote and submitted a proposal to the German Academic Exchange Service requesting 3,600 Euros to support travel related expenses. The grant was awarded.

Postsecondary Student Persistence Predication and Support System: An Exploratory Study. (2009). Contributed to the preparation of a research proposal led by Dr. Brian Mann of the David C. Anchin Center. The proposal was submitted to the Institute of Educational Sciences (IES) program in Postsecondary Education with potential worth of $1.47 million.

Interdisciplinary Research on Education and Training in the Medical Device Industry (2009). Led the design, development, and submission of a collaborative proposal for USF’s Interdisciplinary Research Development Grant worth $50,000.

A Social Network Analysis of the Adoption of the Career Academy Model and Model Fidelity in Florida (2009). Contributed to the preparation of a research proposal led by Dr. Kingsley Reeves, College of Engineering, Industrial and Management Systems Engineering Department. The proposal was submitted to the William T. Grant Foundation but viewed as outside the foundation’s priorities.

MA in CTE Course Conversion and Refinement (2009). In collaboration with Bill Blank, prepared, submitted, and received a $10,000 grant from the Innovative Learner-Centered Grant program (IL-CG) of the Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence for online conversion and refinement of four courses in this program.

Integrating International Perspectives and Experiences for Doctoral Students in Adult, Career and Higher Education (2009). Prepared, submitted, and received a $4,000 grant from the Innovative Learner-Centered Grant program (IL-CG) of the Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence to document and integrate international perspectives and experiences in a doctoral course: EDG 7931 - Comparative Study of Career and Workforce Education Systems.

Hernandez, V. M. & Reeve, K. (2009). Preparing technicians for the medical device industry in a regional workforce education system. Grant proposal submitted to the National Science Foundation (NSF) to fund a 3-year project at the University of South Florida. Potential Amount: $1,200,000.

Fulbright German Studies Seminar (2009). The purpose of this proposal was to apply for participation in a group seminar on current German society and culture to be held in Berlin in summer 2009.

Pinellas Education Foundation’s Fellowship (2008). Prepared a proposal for the Pinellas Education Foundation seeking the creation of a fund in support of a doctoral student fellowship in career and workforce Education.

The Wachovia Occupational Information System (WOIS): A Tool for Community and Workforce Development (2008). Prepared a proposal for the Wachovia Economic Self-Sufficiency Initiative. The goal of the proposed project was to provide a community and workforce development tool allowing the use of education and employment data to map out academic performance, occupational skills, and the occupational outlook in a particular community.
